A New Years Message from the Chaplain
Happy New Year,
As the Old Year meets the New, the staff here at CBC would like to send you greetings of bliss and good health for 2012. Many of us might be familiar with hope that accompanies the dawning of a new year. “New resolutions”, “hopes and promises” and “wiping the slate clean” are terms we utter when the clock strikes midnight and are helpful to us as we prepare to move forward in life. We enter the New Year with the hope that this year will be different and much better for both ourselves and our neighbours.
The fast pace of our world has increased so much that today it is difficult to have enough time for other people. Together with a prayer for peace, another New Year’s resolution could centre on spending more time with those who need us. Even small acts of compassion and selflessness can bring happiness to so many, and there are so many inDublin alone. Consider making someone in your house a cup of tea, checking in with older relatives or elderly neighbours, or even ask someone in your company or class the simplest of questions “how are you today?” – it will count!
Mother Teresa once said that “A smile is the beginning of peace” and that God has given each of us a face and our own unique personality. She called on people to wear this personality on our faces. If we smile when we can, it will catch on and hopefully make others smile too. If we have love and peace within, it will create these feelings for others as well. By acting in ways like these, we just might be able to make life easier for those around us.
Wishing you the best of luck in all aspects of life this 2012, and remember to stay tuned for new years updates!
Slán go foill.
Tom Farrell.
