CSPE is a Junior Certificate Subject mandatory for Junior cycle students. CSPE stands for Civic Social Political Education. The students study seven main topics; Democracy, Rights and responsibilities, Human Dignity, Interdependence, Development, Law and Stewardship. This course attempts to broaden the student’s mind to help them see the world as it really is and also to help show them how this country works and how we can help it. Through the 7 main topics the course looks at documents like the Declaration of Human Rights and the Irish Constitution. There are case studies such as child labour in India and Human rights abuses in China. The course also looks at politics in Ireland as well as how we can get involved in our political system.
