English is a required subject for every student in CBC Monkstown . In the Junior cycle students are taught English with their class group. On the results of the Junior Certificate exams the students are divided up into higher and ordinary classes. This systems helps everyone, for those who excel in English can fly through the course, developing their skills more easily and  those who struggle a little to get the time they need on a subject matter.  The English course is very diverse.  English class covers letters, poets such as Seamus Heaney, Shakespearian plays like The Merchant of Venice and Macbeth,  novels such as To Kill a Mocking Bird, compositions and comparative texts.
