Science Junior Certificate

Science is a required subject for the junior certificate. junior Cert science covers all three of the sciences; biology, physics, and chemistry. The course gives the students a wide base of knowledge, laying the vital ground work for the leaving cert science classes. Junior Cert students learn about human and plant biology, electricity, units of measurement, pressure, the periodic table of elements and some  fun chemical reactions. The classes do  practicals in the science labs in the basement of the school. The rooms are fully fitted with taps, gas taps, safety equipment and all other needed materials.

Chemistry

Chemistry is one of the  three (at maximum) options a student can take for the Leaving Certificate. Chemistry is the science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. It is a physical science studying atoms, molecules, crystals, mixtures and reactions etc. Though there is a rumour the course is difficult the average results from the class are high. The course covers topics such as, atomic structure, the Periodic Table, water, electro-chemistry, fuels and thermo-chemistry. These just a taste of what the curriculum offers students. The class does  practicals in the science labs in the basement of the school. The rooms are fully fitted with taps, gas taps, safety equipment etc.

Biology

Biology is one of the options a student can take for the leaving certificate. Biology is the science that studies living organisms. Biology examines the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution and classification of all living things. The course teaches students topics such as the cell, living organisms, plant anatomy and human biology. The course sets up a student nicely to do university courses such as physical fitness, or even a broad science degree. The class dopracticals in the science labs in the basement of the school.

Physics

Physics is the third Leaving Cert Science option. Physics is a natural science. It is the study of matter and its motion through space and time as well as energy and forces More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature; understanding how the universe behaves. The Physics course looks at topics like nuclear physics, gravity, sound and light, and applied electricity. The course sets a student up nicely to do university courses such as engineering or a broad science degree.
