Transition Year Options
(Apologies for the paucity of information on this page which is currently being edited and updated- for TY events check the News column on the front page of the web site)
The Transition Year aims to give students an opportunity to consider their future in a year free from undue examination pressure. Instead students are expected to learn because of their interest in the curriculum and for reasons of self-development. Several additional subjects are available to TY students as part of their options.

TY – Social Placement
As part of TY each student will take part in a Social Placement Module. By participating in this module the students will have an opportunity to work with people outside the school, like the elderly or children from disadvantaged areas. The module allows the students to reach out to others and in turn grow as people by the experience.
At present 4AK & 4BOF go out on placement each Tuesday morning, returning to school for their 12.30 class. The groups are involved with the following projects:
St. Francis St. Primary School – a group of students with Mr. Byrne teach primary school children basic rugby skills.
Cuala Schools Programme – a group of students work in nearby primary schools teaching basic GAA skills.
Life Centre, Ballyfermot – a group of students work with teenagers
St. Mary’s Home for the Blind/ The Alzeimers Society, Blackrock/ Shankill Old Folk’s Home/ Meals on Wheels Dalkey & Shankill etc. – individual students help out with the needs of each centre.
Holy Family Primary, Monkstown Farm, Harold Boy’s Dalkey – Individual students help pupils and assist teachers.
The present group will continue until Christmas 2010 with 4KW & 4DB replacing them at the various projects after Christmas.
A big THANK YOU to all the projects and organisations who have kindly agreed to take our students for this invaluable experience!
