Facebook – Good or Bad for your child? Parent Council Talk
Parents’ Council Information Meeting
Facebook – Good or Bad for your child?
Wednesday January 25th, 7.45pm – 9pm
Presented by Darina Loakman (Member of Parents’ Council)
Tea/Coffee available
Facebook is changing the way our children communicate from a young age. Parents must deal with this reality and understand it – in order to protect their children and guide them in the right direction. Understanding Facebook is half the battle for Parents.
The meeting will deal with:
- What is Facebook?
- Why do young people like and use Facebook?
- What Parents should know about Facebook
- How a Facebook Account is set up
- Privacy Settings:
- Who can see what?
- What are the loopholes?
- How can I protect my child’s Privacy?
- Friends and Lists – how do they work? (Should I be ‘Friends’ with my child?)
- Terminology and shortened language that children use on Facebook.
- How can I teach my child to use Facebook responsibly?
The meeting is open to all parents but will be of particular relevance to Junior Cycle parents.
5th and 6th class Junior School parents are also welcome. Technically children of this age are too young under Facebook rules, but many are – or will soon be – using it !
The meeting will consist of a Slide Presentation and Handout, followed by a Discussion afterwards.
