The staff here at CBC Monkstown would like to wish all our Sixth Year students a very happy graduation for 2012. Just to recap on the date and times: the venue for this year’s graduation will be in St. Patrick’s Church, Monkstown on Friday 18^th May 2012. The service will commence at the earlier time of 6pm sharp in order to accommodate those who are attending the Royal Marine Hotel function afterwards, as the sit down time for dinner is set for 8pm.

Please contact the school office for further information. On the subject of services, we invite all parents and guardians to join us as we celebrate our Zambian Immersion Project Mass at 6pm on Thursday 24th May in our school staff room. Stay tuned for more information!

CBC Junior Tennis team had yet another super win!

CBC Junior Tennis team had yet another super win today against Clonglowes – 4 points to 1

So the boys have now won 12 out of 15 matches played

It looks like the team will be in the play-offs – a great achievement.

The results from today’s matches against Clongowes are:

no. 1 singles – Michael Frawley won 6-1 6-7 6-4

no. 2. singles – Luke Hanley won 6-0 6-0

no. 3 singles – Cian Ahern won 6-1 6-0

no. 1 doubles Sean Kilroy and Sam O’Loughlin won 6-3 4-6 6-3

no. 2 doubles Sean Kelly and Luke Bennet lost 6-4 6-1

CBC Sports Day May 15th 2012 10.15 – 3.00 pm

This year’s sports day will be held at Greystones Athletic Club. All years will attend. Buses will depart at 9.30 am and return to the school by 4.00 pm. Refreshments will be provided on the day. All students should bring CBC Tracksuit, t-shirt, shorts, runners/spikes, raingear and a packed lunch.

The Great Debate Thursday School Hall 7.45 pm

This Thursday will see CBC hosting the Great Debate 2012 at 7.45 in the hall. Teams from CBC, Loreto Foxrock and St. Joseph of Cluny will debate the motion ‘This House Beleives that Facebook does more Good than Harm’, a topic very relevant to everyone in today’s society.

CBC will represented by last year’s Leinster Champions, Kevin Dooney and Michael Barton, and this year’s Leinster Finalists and winners of several other competitions, Stephen Stack and Hugh Guidera.

Former Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, will chair the adjudication panel.

We hope that the evening will be very much a celebration of the our success this year and all students and parents are invited to join us.

CBC Irish and Leinster Schools Players Competing Abroad.

Congratulations to Eoghan Mckeever (Irish under 18 schools) and Michael Courtney (Leinster Under 18 schools) who toured this week in Madrid and Biarritz respectively. After beating Portugal in the quarter final, Eoghan started at tight head for Ireland and edged past France 22-20 to secure a place in the Fira U18 international series Final against England this Sunday. Also, Michael scored against Biarritz to help the Leinster 18′s to a 24-15 win against Biarritz on Tuesday.

The CBC Monkstown Minor Tennis Team are playing Clongowes at 2pm on Wednesday 18th April in the Leinster Championships.

The matches are as follows:

No 1 Singles Luke Bennet (2^nd year)

No 2 Singles John O’Mahony

No 3 Singles James McArdle

No 1 Doubles David Keane and Mark Cunningham

No 2 Doubles Gary Kelly (2^nd year) and Daniel Farrell

Congratulations to Eoghan McKeever!

Congratulations to Eoghan McKeever (5th Year) who played for the Irish U-18s v Scotland on Sunday 25th March.

Eoghan started as prop in the match and is also traveling with the national team to Madrid for the upcoming FIRA/ AER Championship from March 29th-April 8th.

Good luck to Eoghan and the team in their retaining the title from last year.

CBC WIN LEINSTER DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!

5th years Rory Conlon and Luke Murray won the Leinster Schools’ Debating Championship last night in Trinity College. They beat out another team from CBC and teams from St. Conleths to win the prize. The Championships have over 200 teams from around the province entered and the boys put in an incredible performance to win a very tough debate and did the entire school proud. CBC has now retained the title, after the success of Michael Barton and Kevin Dooney in last year’s competition.
