
The School has very successful athletic teams. The school’s athletic season starts once the rugby season finishes. The school won Edmund Rice games for six years running – finally ending our unbeaten run in the Summer of 2010 when we made third place! The school trains athletes in all track events, with Mr. Fox training the school relay teams. Mr. Fox also trains the school long jump and triple jump teams. Mr Finnegan trains the middle distance athletes. Past teachers Mr. Dunne trains the pole-vaulters and Mr. Kent trains the throwing events.
In the 2009 School’s East Leinster’s Competition the school brought home, 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 6 bronze medals. In the School’s Leinster Competition the School won 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze. Five people qualified for the All Ireland School Competition:
K. Dooney (2000m steeplechase)
S. Smyth (Junior Pole Vault)
G. keogh (Intermediate Pole Vault)
K. Baker (Intermediate Pole Vault)
A. Brennan (Intermediate Triple Jump)
Kevin Dooney went on to take a silver medal and Andrew Brennan took Gold for the school in the Triple Jump.
We had an amazing performance in the 2011 Edmund Rice Games and the Intermediate Relay team have won the coveted Tommy Fay Memorial Trophy.
After part 2 of the Leinster Track and Field we now have no less then 5 individual gold medals, silver for the U16 and Senior 4 x 400 relay teams and 2 bronze.- more here
